the time for our next HUPE Slavonski Brod Branch meeting has come. It will be held on February 29, 2024 at 5 pm at OŠ Dradutin Tadijanović.

Agenda: 

1. Sandra Halt-Ćuže, prof.mentor: „SOLDIER OF LOVE – TIME MACHINE“
   As an opener to the lecture a few musical numbers will be presented within quizzes and/or exercises. The topic itself is a report on a video making challenge in organization of HUPE, Croatia and the languages United – boutique school of English (Bath, England).There will be a short presentation of students who have won and their work and contribution in similar projects up to date. Next, we will touch upon the synopsis and the scenery of the film, as well as the shooting process itself. We will talk about the positive outcomes of the process as well as some drawbacks. The subsequent workshop will consist of array of helpful tools used in editing videos, with the stress on finding a good way in outlining the story and reaching the final product: maintaining the creative impulse, transmitting the message while respecting the language input given.

2. Lidija Čorni, prof. izvrsni savjetnik i Kornelija Šebalj, prof. savjetnik: “Item Writing: Objectives for Objective Tests.”
   Assessment has been an integral part of any learning process. More often than not, it doesn't serve its main purpose but poses problems for both the examinee and the teacher, or in this case an item-writer. So, what is its main purpose? It is establishing or measuring the level of achievement in knowledge or ability. Why are tests sometimes problematic? For students, they are intimidating because of the risk of failing or not achieving the necessary standards, especially with high-risk tests, and for teachers as item-writers, the difficulties may arise when designing a valid and reliable test that serves the teacher's purpose. This workshop will try to tackle some of the questions mentioned above.

  Conflict is a natural element of communication, but also a constraint for effective and proactive interaction: this is why its systematic analysis and management have become an important part in diplomatic training. This workshop will explore the ways in which these skills can be translated to language teaching and applied in language classrooms with students of all ages and proficiency levels, offering some useful language practice and activities along the way!

1. Darja Urh: A safe place 
   Have you ever thought about what a teacher needs to be able to be a good teacher? Not what students need. My plan is to channel the energy into us. We must take care of ourselves. Join me and find out how to be a happy teacher and learn to look after yourself. 
2. Dora Božanić Malić: Twist and turn: Unleashing the power of ready-made materials
   In this workshop, a collection of EFL teaching materials accessible through our social media platforms is presented. Moreover, the participants are lead through the art of customizing exercises to meet their specific needs, e.g. converting a grammar practice activity into a writing task, a speaking activity into a grammar-focused exercise, a vocabulary task into a stimulating discussion, etc. The workshop will empower educators to adapt the materials flexibly according to their teaching objectives. There will be a little Christmas bonus at the end.

   The talk will focus on presenting the EPAS (The European Parliament Ambassador School Programme) project activities and teaching materials oriented toward development of critical thinking in young people so they can form positive attitudes towards the European Union and its underlying values.

1. Mirta Kos – Kolobarić: An Idiom a Day Keeps Boredom Away
   How many English idioms do your students know and use? The workshop presents several ready-made ideas and quizzes you can use in the classroom to help them learn some interesting and frequent idioms. Through station learning, students get acquainted with various idioms, organized by themes (colours, animals). Each station presents  a different task, introducing an element of gamification and competition, encouraging teamwork and collaboration.

2. Tea Horvat: AI is here – Now What?
   When artificial intelligence (AI) enters your classroom, you should prepare your students and you should be prepared as well. Moreover, the talk summarizes the ideas for quicker lesson planning, generating responses from Chat GPTand generating AI videos, images or even presentations with various AI tools and how to use AI in education.

Some examples are critical and innovative thinking, inter-personal skills, intra-personal skills, global citizenship, media and information literacy.

4. Ana Kodrić Ivelić and Marija Čarija Agoli: Team Building With CLIL
   CLIL stands for Content and Language Integrated Learning. CLIL incorporates both the learning of content and the learning of a foreign language. When we think of content, CLIL is often about the teaching of subjects such as science, history or geography, but it can also be about the teaching of any other kind of content which is less academic such as photography, fashion, cooking or cinema. In this workshop you will learn about many examples of good practice.

  The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) in language teaching and learning presents ChatGPT as a promising tool for improving language proficiency. Despite teachers’ concerns, this workshop aims to showcase ChatGPT’s potential uses. It can serve as a language practice partner, allowing students to converse with anadaptive language model for speaking and writing practice with instant feed-back. Additionally, it can function as a personalized language tutor, identifying areas for improvement. ChatGPT also acts as a language resource tool, offering vocabulary, grammar, and cultural information. The workshop will cover AI theory and practical ideas for ChatGPT in classrooms.
